Red Riding Hood

I did not know what to expect from Red Riding Hood (Three-Disc Blu-ray/DVD Combo + Digital Copy)... and I was pleasantly suprised.

From the beginning the colours, imagery and soundtrack , drew me into the world of this medievil village.  I have always found movies that depict past history and culture to be of interest and this one was no different - and it dealt with this childhood legend brilliantly.

Red Riding Hood is Valerie - played by Amanda Seyfried (Mama Mia), a village girl raised in a tough time in a brutal surrounds.  Each full moon the village is held hostage by a werewolf, and the children are raised to live under the rules and regime of protection and self-preservation.  Valerie finds it difficult to live by the rules and her love interest Peter (Shiloh Fernandez) encourages her to delve into all facets of her personality and sexuality.  Sadly though she is betrothed to another - Henry (Max Irons) and tension and disaster prevail, as they explore their love, and deal with the Werewolf picking off their village inhabitants one by one.

As a science fiction fan I loved seeing the cameo appearances by Shaun Hogan (Battlestar Galactica) and Michael Shanks (Stargate SG1), and who cannot love any character played by the quirky Gary Oldman (Fifth Element).  The movie included lots of familiar faces at every turn - Billy Burke and Virginia Madsen to name a few.

If a movie can capture and hold my partners interest and attention - it is definitely worth seeing!!

I rate this movie 7/10.  A truly epic fantasy movie by the director of Twilight - Catherine Hardwicke.
